CORAL: Coral is a skeleton of calcium carbonate precipitates formed from
surrounding seawater by tiny polyps. Color: Red, pink, white (black, blue). Most valued type of coral is the noble red coral. Unworked coral is dull but can be polished to give it a vitreous luster. Source: Coral occurs throughout the world in tropical and sub tropical waters, mainly in the Mediterranean Sea and the coasts of North Africa. Italy is the main trade center. |
