You've probably seen all the fishing lures being offered through television commercials recently. With baits such as The Banjo Minnow, The Flying Lure, The Bionic Minnow and The Stimu-Lure all being advertised on TV, Black Mamba is the latest contender in the infomercial arena. With the battle of the baits in full swing Black Mamba has been declared, by Real Fishing magazine as “the hands down winner” and the only one of the bunch “likely to do the Yeoman’s job the admerchants say they will”. In the fishing edition of Outdoor Canada magazine, Black Mamba baits are featured in an article comparing soft-plastic jerkbaits.

Many baits were tested but only the top seven baits were featured in the article. Of these seven baits, three were from soft-plastic industry giants, the other four were the Black Mamba baits. Many of the top professional fisherman, all well known names, have used these baits and have unanimously but unfortunately anonymously (due to prior contractual commitments) applauded these baits. You would have to be able to fish it fast to catch active fish and cover lots of water, and dead slow to catch inactive fish. Studies show that at any one time, only 10% of fish are actively looking for food, 10% have just eaten and around 80% are neutral, that is, somewhere in the middle. Most lures are designed to catch one of the two extremes, which represent only a very small portion of the total number of fish.
